All money raised will enable the League to continue our mission of Charity, Public Service & Education and will be used to support programs in our community. Since 1937, the Service League of Hickory, NC, Inc. has served those in need and has been instrumental in the origins of The Community Ridge Day Care Center, The Family Guidance Center, and The Creative Museum for Youth later named The Catawba Science Center.
This program provides backpacks filled with nutritious, child friendly, vitamin enriched foods for students at risk of hunger in the Hickory Public School system. These backpacks are available for students to take home on the weekends and holidays when school lunches are not offered.
The Community Connections Committee focuses on engaging league members through service projects within our community through partnering with area organizations that align with our mission of charity, public service and education. Projects vary each year; are community based and are hands-on opportunities.
Since 1954, more than 200 high school seniors in Catawba County have been assisted with college tuition expenses through our Scholarship Endowment program. Students receive assistance based on financial need, academic achievement, leadership and work ethic.
To honor the League’s 75th anniversary our popular cookbook Market to Market was reprinted with revisions, the game and microwave sections removed, and an added section of over 150 new recipes contributed by our members for the anniversary edition.
In 1937 ten energetic and committed women laid a foundation for an organization whose mission of charity, public service and education continues today.
Through the years the League has gifted local students, area agencies, schools, and other non-profit organizations with their volunteer time and dollars.
Our members have a strong commitment of working together to ensure the continued strength of the Service League and our community.
