ACT Program Assistance

Members volunteer in Newton with elementary school students in the Adolescents and Children in Treatment Center (ACT). In this combined program, the Service League partners with Catawba County Schools and the Mental Health Department assisting children with behavioral challenges. Acquired skills help students transition back into a regular school setting.

While visiting the school once a month, members celebrate children’s birthdays. In addition, they plan and conduct five seasonal parties during the school year. The school’s library also benefits since gently used children’s books donated to The Thrift Shop are contributed. In short, members work with ACT teachers to make these children feel valued and treasured.
